PITTI UOMO 97, NEW INPUTS FOR A CONSCIOUS FASHION

From 7 to 10 January 2020 Pitti Immagine Uomo brings together the most important players in menswear and contemporary lifestyles to Florence. A multitude of voices gives rise to unique moments of discovery and debate, an increasingly multi-faceted experience that is capable of revealing next season’s trends and, at the same time, offering input in order to understand, in advance, the challenges and strategies of global fashion retail. The winter edition of the fair will be colored by special projects from fashion scenes that are distinguished by their creativity, respect for tradition and with an eye towards the future. The increasingly precise venues will showcase a selection of brands that offer a prompt response to market demands. The calendar of events and special projects will be enriched by prestigious names. In a fast and fluid world the Pitti Immagine style is confirmed as a vital compass guiding the choices of the global fashion community.

THE EXTRAORDINARY GRANT OF MISE AND THE ICE AGENCY

This edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo benefits from the special grant of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MiSE - Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico) and the Italian Trade Agency (Agenzia ICE) to support Made in Italy trade fairs. This grant is dedicated to promoting hospitality, media and advertising activities.

SHOW YOUR FLAGS AT PITTI:

The theme of the winter fairs

This time Pitti is talking flags. A rectangle of material, an inlay of lines, colors, and designs, the Pitti Immagine flag flutters in the snap taken by the prominent photographer Franco Pagetti for the campaign dedicated to the winter fairs. Fabrics in constant movement, they are not unlike the clothing we wear: mobile symbols of identity, belonging, thought, feeling. A flag is never a silent fabric, it always has something to say; it consistently arouses emotions because it speaks in universal messages. It is expressive, enthusiastic, insolent. It flutters, falls, is lowered, raised, carried and folded. Flags are beautiful geometrical compositions; they give pleasure to the people who see them flying. Pitti is like the United Nations of Fashion where every brand has its own flag, but also where each one of us can become our own flag. “Show Your Flags at Pitti” will be staged at the Fortezza da Basso with art direction by Angelo Figus and a set design by Alessandro Moradei.

OTHERWISE FORMAL
Formalità / una questione di qualità

For the 97th edition of Pitti Uomo, DUST MAGAZINE will curate a special runway show at the Fortezza da Basso. A new project exploring what could be considered one of Pitti’s main contributions to menswear: expanding the boundaries of what formal wear is and how it can be worn differently. This continuous exercise throughout the editions has managed to bind together oppositely charged elements, such as fine tailoring, classic uniform aspects, with casual attire and sportswear: a new equation between quality and innovation which shaped the contemporary definition of formal. These are the aspects of the everyday-wear for the everyday man that the magazine through its point of view will celebrate in a show. A selection of garments and looks from Italian and international brands will walk out from the fair stands into the open space of Fortezza da Basso, engaging the public with a question. What is the new formal today?

THINK GREEN: from waste materials to new materials

For the very first time a space inside the Lyceum will become “a place of ideas” for the new frontiers of eco-design. Created by architect Andrea Caputo, this space will host eco projects, concrete ideas for realizing sustainable retail spaces, immediately feasible and “crazy” theories as well as a forum with a calendar of monologues and talks, brief yet intense, as impromptu as they are interesting, open to everyone who wants a chance to reflect upon them. This is a starting point, a new beginning for the Pitti community.
