The Central Exhibition Hall "Manezh" is opening bright and remarkable exhibition «KIMONO TRANSFORMED: THE TEXTILE ARTISTRY OF ITCHIKU Kubota»

The exhibition presents 80 unique kimono created by Itchiku Kubota. Organizers of the exhibition for opening day have invited journalists from leading media in fashion and culture fields to tell them about how the exhibition was creating, and what interesting is to be presented to visitors of this event.

There will be shown a film about the creation of Kubota’s kimono and manufacturing techniques, as well as the organizers plan to conduct tea ceremonies. Moreover, the special edition, dedicated to the master and his art, is prepared, timed to the opening of the exhibition.

Itchiku Kubota - a master, awarded in 1990 by the Order of Arts and Literature in France. International fame and recognition he received thanks to the original design of the products, the outstanding work with color and texture of materials and rare devotion to his art. Artist revived and modernized the ancient technique of working with national cloth, forgotten many centuries ago - tsujigahana (literally, flowers at the crossroads).
Master began to learn the art of working with textiles at the age of 14. When he was 20, he first became acquainted with the ancient technique Tsujigahana  in the Tokyo National Museum. This method of working with textiles, which existed from the XVI century, includes a variety of techniques for working with fabric, as painting, painting with the art brush, using gold and silver threads, embroidery. Impressed by the beauty of the fabrics, the master decided to devote himself to the revival of the ancient art. Working on this during all his life, Itchiku Kubota created what today we call the technique "Itchiku Tsujigahana  " as a tribute to his merits . Master died in 2003 at the age of 85, but his works continue, as before, to surprise the audience with the unique colors and deep philosophy, embodied in each item.

After the first exhibition in Tokyo in 1977, which was held with great success, Kubota began work on a series of 80 outstanding kimono, called "Symphony of Light", whose task master saw as a reflection of the greatness of the universe. The exhibition will feature 36 unique kimono series of "Symphony of Light": 29 works, placed side by side to form a spectacular landscape paintings poetic, smoothly passing from a golden glow to the icy coolness of autumn winter snow and 7 glorious color kimono, reflecting the view of the universe Itchiku Kubota. Two additional series kimono series "Mount Fuji " (11 works), and a series of "Oceans" ( 5 works), emphasizes the unique relationship to nature.
Organizers and curators of the exhibition selected the panorama circle way of presenting works, and that was the right choice: visitors and journalists were able to appreciate the power of design thanks to this panoramically - circular exposure from splash of bright colors to a combination of blue and purple shades, from the majestic views of Mount Fuji to the depths of the ocean, and the apogee of all colors - gorgeous, radiant, with all of its shades - white!
White color – as a symbol of purity and innocence, start of all the new ideas, and very remarkable in Japanese culture. And even in the Russian language, when we say "start from scratch ", we immediately visualize the image of a white paper sheet.  The decision to start the new year 2014 with a new exhibition in “Manezh” with this deeply philosophical exhibition was a great idea also.
And that is what we would like to recommend to our readers – just start your year with visit to this bright and aesthetically attractable culture event - and perhaps all the year there will be more space for the beauty of our entire life.
